This paper has designed the switched reluctance motor (SRM) to produce a large average torque and a large average torque minus torque ripple by using the experimental design method coupled with 2-D finite element analysis. The SRM which has the average torque of 471.9N¥m has been designed. Moreover this paper has investigated the torque speed characteristics, and has clarified that the average torque of the optimized motor is large when the rotating speed is less than 1100min-1.
